PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH
DO WHAT YOU PREACH
The feeling of something existing is basically known when that thing is experienced by someone and not hallucinated. What I believe is that if something has no name, then it doesn’t exist and thus means that it has no reality. Christianity is Christianity because it has an existence, that is there is something that shows that this person is a Christian and thus distinguishes it from any other religion. This means that the spiritual growth of a Christian is seen outwardly by what he or she does and says and not just by faith or believe that the person is a Christian. In the area of politics, fashion, dancing, education, music, movies, drinking and other social life activities, a Christian is found participating directly and indirectly in all of them. Involved directly or indirectly in all of them because if not the believer himself, the person can be a relation. This article seeks to reflect on certain things that we as Christians talk about but haven’t actually proved in real terms that our doctrine or faith is against them.
There are several preaching topics trending worldwide among believers of the gospel of Jesus Christ either in the church premises or in their social interactions. One thing is of fact that most believers normally say them by mouth and not acting upon them. We are looking at first and foremost the area of fashion to be precise dress code. As Christians, for example we preach or talk against ungodly dressing among both men and women these days and forget what must actually be done to change the ungodly one to Godly one.
Taking women dressing as an example, some people claim that women nowadays wear clothes that exposes their body and leads to sexual harassment on the part of men. This is preached in churches and said in their social interactions believing the problem can be solved. But we have forgotten that these dresses are found in the market and are meant for sale to the general public. As for me, it is very important we take on more practical actions than just talking about it, and these practical actions begins from ourselves through to our family members, friends and colleagues.
Regardless, of the manufacturer through to the last man that handles the clothing’s to the user, that person could be a Christian. I have realized that it is the same "preacher" that owns the boutique that sells those clothes, the same church members, friends and family members of the "preacher" are the ones selling these clothes. The opposite needs to be done first before preaching. If believers stop selling these immoral and ungodly clothing and moreover talk about it then there will be a change. Also telling that brother, sister, friend and family member to sell clothes that are pleasing in the sight of God will be helpful. Remember ‘James’ said faith without action is dead like a body without spirit is dead (chapt.2 vs 26) according to the Bible. Let us walk our talk as Christians!
Moreover, our society has gotten to the point where discrimination has become a formality. A faithful man is not the discriminating type, because he is a man of integrity and justice. Same applies to a Christian who upholds the gospel because he bears the fruit of faithfulness (Galatians 5:22) as one the fruit of the spirit. We find our self in offices and other places, as Christians who need to exhibit the life of Christ Jesus in every corner as he did when he came to stay on earth with us. Jesus Christ was for all and not for his family members alone, but we Christians turn to discriminate among ourselves in making decisions that will favor us, our family, friends and only the people we know even though it against the faith we uphold. Instead of doing what we preach, we preach and forget what to do!
Discrimination violate the word of God “love your neighbor as yourself” (Mark 12:31) and also is against the fruit of love as produced by the holy spirit. We are found in all areas of life but because of these acts, the Christian kingdom keeps fighting against itself. Because we turn to discriminate among ourselves as Christians, positions and roles are being placed in the hands of the favored and look at how they are handling our state of living in this world that was meant for us all. We try to please the ones we know and so forget we serve a God of faithfulness, truthfulness and justice, thereby bringing differences among ourselves. Let us walk our talk as Christians!
As Christians, we find ourselves in the political field and other jurisdictions of government positions. We entangle ourselves to the believes of those positions we hold and will do anything to keep them even if something is not right and is against our faith with the fear of losing those positions. We preach against lying, but when we get to those positions we call it propaganda as if it is not the same lying forgetting the bible calls liars as “antichrist” – 1 John 2:22(NKJV). And because of political affiliations we say anything whether hurting or not and we call it political talk. Let us do what we preach!
Is there any music or movie without a producer? Certainly no, it is either that ungodly song or movie was produced by or sung by a fellow Christian family member or close friend. But because he or she benefits from the proceed, it is good to keep quiet and not to correct the person to take the right path. Let do what we preach! So, can’t we Christians build up restaurant and bars that doesn’t sell alcoholic beverages? The one who extract the alcohol, the one selling the final product if not a Christian maybe related to a Christian, but what do we do? We sit quietly and watch as if it is all good. Even now the worldly dances are what we dance in our service places and we say we using it to praise God forgetting that darkness and light has nothing in common. Let us do what we preach!
Doing what we preach as Christians means there are no limitations, barriers and jurisdictions in practicalizing our faith. It doesn’t matter where we find ourselves, all that matter is what a Christian must exhibit to showcase his or her faith. Let do what we preach because it is part of our spiritual growth. Let walk our talk for the faith we have in Jesus Christ.
